Crimson Moon Poison Build: Gear, Boons and Positioning

Poison the ground twice over, then walk through it while it cannot hurt you.

Everything here poisons: the weapon's Art raises a wave of thorns, the offhand leaves a trail behind you, and the sword raises the damage of all of it by 35. Patient Zero then removes the drawback — you can stand in your own poison and take nothing from it, which is what makes fighting inside the cloud a plan rather than a mistake.

Why these choices

Effects are quoted from the database, so you can check each claim on the page it comes from.

  • The Pagan chest grants Aftershock Technique innately: Weapon Art attacks that create ground damage zones fire twice. Whether the Rotkin Shield's Poison Trail counts as such a zone is not confirmed — the game calls it a trail, not a zone — so treat that pairing as untested rather than as the reason to take the set.
  • Rotkin's Thorn grants Cleansing Pestilence innately: Heavy attack hits have a 30% chance to apply poison, and Poison attacks deal +35 Poison. The weapon raises the damage of everything else in the build.
  • The Pagan helmet grants Divine Reservoir innately: +50 Max Mana. Martyr's Gift then recovers Mana equal to 25% of damage taken, so the larger pool refills from being hit.
  • Patient Zero means being Poisoned no longer damages you — which is what makes standing in a doubled poison zone a plan rather than a mistake.
  • On a Pale Horse Poisons everything within 5 metres when you enter Angel Ascension, and Weapon Attacks in Ascension apply 250 Poison. Sunder is the Sigil built around entering and leaving that state.

How to play this build

  1. Place the listed Poison effects where enemies will approach, then reposition so they remain in the affected area while you have an exit.
  2. Establish Poison application before selecting effects that require a poisoned enemy. Reapply when necessary instead of spending every Art together.
  3. Keep your defenses ready inside the area: removing Poison damage does not stop incoming weapon attacks.

Where to start and what to substitute

  • Use a Poison Art or application Boon you already own while collecting this set. A ground-area plan changes if your only application comes from direct attacks.
  • Without Patient Zero, stay clear of Poison hazards that damage you. The build's immunity claim depends on that effect being equipped.

Find equipment through exploration and mission rewards, then purify recovered gear at Sanctus Clypeus to make it available for future loadouts. Blacksmith upgrades are permanent. See gear and Purification for the progression steps.

  • Rotkin's Thorn — Catalogue unlock: E'frae, the Dry Rot King.
  • Rotkin Shield — No specific acquisition location is confirmed in this catalogue.

When to change the plan

Stationary Poison areas depend on enemy positioning. We have not established which bosses resist Poison or measured damage over a full encounter.

Make it yours

Nothing here is fixed. There are no classes in Crimson Moon, so every slot above is a choice you can change — and half a build is decided during the hunt anyway, at the Nexus Gates. Post what you end up running.
