Crimson Moon Angels

Angel Forms, the Sigils that grant them, and why they are not companions.

A Nephilim transformed, vast burning wings spread behind them.

In Crimson Moon you transform into an Angel rather than summoning one. Fighting enemies fills a meter; when it is ready you become a more powerful angelic form for a limited time. Which form you take is decided by the Angelic Sigil carved into your Nephilim, and two are documented: Aegis for direct melee combat and Sunder for ranged Arcane combat.

Are Angels companions you summon?

No — and it is worth being direct about it, because the phrasing is common and it changes how you build.

Angels in Crimson Moon are a form you take, not an ally you call. The transformation charges as you fight and then activates, turning you into a much more powerful angelic form for a limited time. Which form you get is set by the Angelic Sigil carved into your Nephilim, which determines how their angelic power manifests.

The practical difference matters. A summoned companion would be a second source of damage on the field; a transformation is a power spike you choose when to spend, which is why it is worth holding for a boss or a bad room rather than using on cooldown.

You may see Angels described elsewhere as a summonable companion tier. That is not how the mechanic works, so this page describes the transformation instead.

The documented Angel Forms

Two Sigils, two very different roles.

Aegis

Sigil of the Warrior

Aegis is the melee form: an angelic shape specialising in direct combat at close range. Its unlock track adds Angel Fire, which reaches level 1 at character level 6 and level 2 at level 12.

Sunder

Angelic Sigil (Azrael)

Sunder specialises in ranged Arcane combat, smiting enemies with elemental blasts while being able to outmanoeuvre them with ease. Its unlock track adds Angel Frost, at level 7 and again at level 13.

Building around an Angel Form

The Boon pool has explicit support for it, which is the clearest signal of how the game expects you to use it.

Several Boons key off the transformation directly. Angelic Strength gives your Weapon Attacks +20% Bonus Attack Power while Angel Ascension is active, and Divine Endurance grants a 100% bonus to Angelic Grace Recovery while your health is at or below 40%. Both reward treating the Angel as a resource you manage rather than an ability you press — the first makes the window stronger, the second makes the window come round sooner when things are going badly.

Common questions about Angels

How many Angels are there in Crimson Moon?

Two Angel Forms are currently documented: Aegis, the Sigil of the Warrior, which specialises in direct melee combat, and Sunder, which specialises in ranged Arcane combat. Both are extended by further abilities as your character level rises.

Do you summon an Angel in Crimson Moon, or become one?

You become one. Fighting enemies fills a meter, and when it is ready you transform into a more powerful angelic form for a limited time. The Angel is a transformation of your own character rather than a companion that fights alongside you.

What is an Angelic Sigil?

An Angelic Sigil is carved into a Nephilim and determines which angelic form their power takes. A Nephilim can tap into their angelic lineage readily, but the Sigil decides how that energy manifests — so the Sigil is what picks your Angel Form.

How do you unlock more Angel Forms?

By levelling. Sunder unlocks at character level 5. Individual Angel abilities arrive on their own track afterwards: Aegis gains Angel Fire at level 6 and again at 12, and Sunder gains Angel Frost at level 7 and again at 13.
