The Wards of Gildenarch

Three districts, six named locations, and what has taken hold in each.

The candlelit interior of a great gothic cathedral.

Gildenarch has three documented Wards — major districts, each with its own history: the Southern Ward, the oldest and poorest; the Grimhaven Ward, its industrial heart; and the Gilded Ward, home to the city's aristocracy and ground zero for the Hellgrowth outbreak. 6 named locations are documented across them.

The Southern Ward

Much of the Southern Ward has fallen into squalor and disrepair, most of all the area now called the Forsaken Streets. Closer to the city's high walls there are still sections of middle-class housing, and the Archspire Cathedral the city takes its name from.

It is the ward where the Reborn Cult spread most easily, for the reason the wiki gives plainly: it is a place where anyone could disappear without being noticed.

Forsaken Streets

A dense tangle of housing and small businesses packed among neglected, rotting structures held together by makeshift materials. An ideal environment for the Reborn Cult to spread its heresy.

Archspire Cathedral

The cathedral Gildenarch takes its name from, and the seat of the Lunitarian Archspire Chapter. It holds some of the Church's most closely guarded secrets outside the capital of Luminar — and the greatest of them is the reason the city is now falling.

The Grimhaven Ward

Grimhaven was unkempt but historically safer than the neglected Southern Ward. That is no longer true of either of its two known locations: both are now held by the Infernal Legion and the Reborn Cult.

Ramshorn Keep

Once the garrison of Gildenarch's city watch, now a fortification for the Infernal Legion and the Reborn Cult. The castletown around it was among the city's most trusted middle-class districts before it fell into murderous frenzy.

Shoreditch Prison

Also called the Walltower. An ancient citadel dating to the early history of Gildenarch, which has been a duke's keep and one of the most feared prisons in the Isles. Recently sold by the last Caldwel heir to Nachtstahl Steel's Solomon Moore.

The Gilded Ward

The Gilded Ward is ground zero for the Hellgrowth outbreak. That makes it both the wealthiest district in the city and the source of what is destroying it.

Elk Grove Academy

Home to some of Velchoria's brightest minds. By the time of the invasion the institution's integrity had fallen far from its former heights, which helped open the door to the city's demise.

Moore Manor

The estate of the vampire lord Solomon Moore, and one of the areas of Gildenarch least contaminated by the Hellgrowth. Long surrounded by rumour; its actual truths are stranger than the stories.

Do the three Wards mean three world bosses?

Probably — but nothing we have says so, so this is where the page stops.

Pre-launch coverage described the main progression as three districts and three major world bosses, followed by one final boss, and there are three Wards. The two facts line up neatly and the conclusion is tempting. But nothing states that one Ward maps to one world boss, or which boss belongs to which district — so this site does not claim it. The mapping will be added here once it is known.

Common questions about the Wards

What are the Wards in Crimson Moon?

Wards are the major districts of Gildenarch, the city the game takes place in. Three are documented: the Southern Ward, the Grimhaven Ward and the Gilded Ward. Each has its own history and character, and 6 named locations are documented across them.

How many districts does Gildenarch have?

Three are documented: Southern, Grimhaven and Gilded. Pre-launch coverage described the game's main progression as being built around three districts and three major world bosses followed by a final boss, which matches the number of wards — though no source states outright that one ward equals one world boss.

Which ward is the Hellgrowth outbreak in?

The Gilded Ward. It is the youngest district and the seat of the city's aristocracy, and it is also ground zero for the Hellgrowth outbreak unleashed on Gildenarch — so the wealthiest part of the city is the source of what is destroying it.

What is the oldest part of Gildenarch?

The Southern Ward. Parts of it date back to the original hamlet of Gildeus that the city grew from, and it contains the Archspire Cathedral that Gildenarch takes its name from.
