Crimson Moon level unlocks

Every level to 15, what it gives you, and the four that change how you play.

Levelling in Crimson Moon is not just bigger numbers. Across the 15 documented levels you gain +50 maximum health, +25 mana, +15 stamina and +4 lives — but the changes that matter most are the unlocks beside them: the Sunder Angel Form at level 5, the Librarian and the Boon pool at level 4, the Blacksmith’s Epic upgrades at level 12, and a drop-quality floor that rises three times on the way. New enemy variants arrive on the same schedule, so levelling widens the threat as well as the answer to it.

The four levels that change how you play

Most levels hand you a stat and a service. Four of them change a decision you are making every run.

  • Level 2 — the Merchant and Blacksmith open, which is the first point at which anything is purchasable at all.
  • Level 4 — the Librarian unlocks and the Boon pool expands for the first time. The pool widens twice more, at levels 8 and 12.
  • Level 5 — the Sunder Angel Form unlocks, and for the first time your Angel Form is a choice rather than a given.
  • Level 12 — Epic upgrades open at the Blacksmith, raising the ceiling on permanently upgrading your Collection.

Enemy variants arrive with your levels

Five enemy variants are introduced by level rather than by a difficulty setting — Fire at 2, Poison at 5, Marking at 7, Bleed at 9 and Ice at 11. Each corresponds to a status effect you will start taking as well as dealing, which is worth knowing before the level rather than after it.

What this table does not tell you

It does not say how much experience a level costs, what the level cap is, or what any of the numbered tiers (“Angel Fire Lv. 2”, “Health Flask Potency Lv. 3”) change in figures. None of that is published anywhere available, so none of it is estimated here.

The table is transcribed from the community wiki and has not been verified in game by anyone on this site.

Common questions about levelling

How do you unlock the Sunder Angel in Crimson Moon?

Reach level 5. The Sunder Angel Form is a level unlock rather than something you find or buy, so it arrives on its own as you play. Aegis is the Form you start with; Sunder is the ranged Arcane one.

What is the max level in Crimson Moon?

Not known. Documented progression runs to level 15, and no source available records a level above it — which is not the same as there being none. Treat 15 as the end of what is written down rather than the end of the game.

When does the Blacksmith unlock in Crimson Moon?

The Blacksmith and the Merchant both open at level 2. His upgrade tiers come later: Rare at level 4 and Epic at level 12, which is what sets the ceiling on permanently upgrading your gear.

Do enemies get harder as you level up in Crimson Moon?

New enemy variants are introduced by level rather than by a difficulty setting: Fire at level 2, Poison at 5, Marking at 7, Bleed at 9 and Ice at 11. Levelling widens what you meet as well as what you can do about it.

Does levelling improve loot in Crimson Moon?

Yes, in two separate ways. Drop chance floors rise — Uncommon+ at level 6, Rare+ at 11, Epic+ at 13 — and the quality the Merchant and Blacksmith will sell you rises at level 9. Those are independent of Purification, which always unlocks an item at Common regardless of level.
